However, if one of your main goals is getting people signed up for an email list so they can receive ongoing promotional emails from you in the future (e.g., discounts), then putting “Subscribe” as the primary call-to-action button makes sense because this gives visitors another reason why subscribing matters–they’ll also get coupons!
When designing calls-to-action that are meant for conversions (such as signing up for newsletters), think about what else could motivate someone besides just clicking on that specific link? What might prompt someone else into converting better than just a generic-looking text box asking them to sign up?
Maybe it’s offering something like 10% off their first purchase when they do sign up; maybe it’s offering some sort of special discount only available through signing up via email; etc.
